Vision

By 2035, anyone can step inside a vivid, embodied experience of a future they might actually live — and walk out with a felt answer to “is this mine?” instead of a lifetime of drift. In a world where AI dissolved the career ladders that handed young people a direction, we built a public way to try on a life before choosing it. Career decisions are so well informed that individuals are bringing their best to the world, 80,000 hours at a time.

The Imaginator — a multi-sensory life-experience simulator

Synthesizes a personalized, embodied near-future from your own history and values. Engages sight, sound, and bounded somatic channels. It’s not a video, but a stretch of life you remember having lived, including the ordinary Tuesdays a recruiter would never show you. Self-initiated use only, by law.

What kind of AI exists in your world?

Strictly Tool AI: a renderer, not an oracle. It constructs a future faithful to your own inputs, while being architecturally and legally forbidden from selecting a future for you, ranking lives, or optimizing toward any outcome (enrollment, purchase, persuasion). It carries audited affective-safety limits: hard intensity caps, mandatory comedown ramps, and a ban on reward-loop dynamics. Never recommends, never remembers you between sessions.

The Vocation Commons: runs free neighborhood Imaginaria the way the 20th century ran libraries. Provides free, equal-access sessions; certifies only no-persuasion builds; runs mandatory informed consent before and structured after-care after every session; audits live sessions for manipulation markers; enforces per-person time limits. Forbidden from licensing the engine for advertising, political messaging, hiring, or any third-party use. Violation is treated like selling a weapon.

Before: career guidance was a brochure, a book, a website, and a market that moved too fast to match; automation removed the entry-level roles where you used to stumble into a vocation; 42% of 18–24-year-olds reported no vocational direction. After: choosing a life is a practice with public infrastructure behind it. By 2035, that share fell to 19% across Commons cohorts, local GDP began running higher, screen time plummeted, and young people’s communities reported higher rates of wellbeing.

A Major Crisis Overcome

The 2031 Persuasion Scare: a political firm deployed an unlicensed engine to produce fabricated future experiences. Voters in three regions lived a fabricated catastrophe and voted accordingly. It was the most effective political manipulation ever deployed. The backlash nearly banned the technology. Instead, the world drew a bright line: personal-use-only, publicly-provided, no-persuasion-certified. The weapon was outlawed; the gift was kept. The Vocation Commons was stood up to hold the line.
