World Summary

Vision

In 2035 AI is a familiar, well-integrated tool, its novelty replaced with understanding, and its limits and utility well-explored and optimised into daily life. While superficially utilitarian and mundane, its effects on social justice and human well-being are profound, quietly reinforcing equitable access to expertise, care, and information.

Transformative technology

municipal embodied agentic AI in the service of public works and social support

Public health. A robotic immune system of municipal bots patrols the city’s gutters clearing blockages and flagging repairs as barrier defense. Onboard sensors monitor for pathogens and chemical contaminants giving early warning of infectious outbreaks and marking targets for cleanup/investigation.

What kind of AI exists in your world?

AI raises the bar for expertise. With human knowledge contextualised to task, professionals work at expanded capacity. Skeuomorphic interlocutors become mechanistic partners: reliable sources of fact and inference. Judgement and meaning remain human. Bounded tasks get replaced: bots read vitals and explain consent in the patient’s language, AI organises documentation and does taxes. Companies build AI under jurisdictional governance, incentivised to extend access in underserved communities.

New or Reformed Institution

Federal Communications Commission (FCC new mandate)

Good decisions need good information. In 2035 holding or pursuit of public office assumes consent to real-time citation standard checks of factual claims. Neither opinion nor persuasion is hindered. AIs are accredited for competence and traceability; a multijurisdictional AI network monitors political speech in real-time, contributing to a data pool for plural assessments. Politicians are publicly graded on the veracity of their claims.

Transformed Sector

Biotechnology

Benchwork in 2035 has progressed to full robotic automation. AI lab managers schedule experiments and conditions adaptively, responsive to results. Biologists direct research hands-free in reciprocal illumination with AI inferences and real-world insights. Raising the floor for new biologists opens a vocational niche for lab tenders who maintain the robots and manage reagents and samples. More lab uptime, more cognitive time, more jobs without a degree mean more shots on goal for new therapies.

A Major Crisis Overcome

In the early 2030s antibiotic-resistant pathogens became a leading cause of sickness and death globally. Productivity loss and care costs strained economies, worst in nations with slim margins. AI biotech workflows with continuous compute allowed multi-order matching for bacteriophage therapy at scale. With precision antibiotic use, efficacy rose as cost fell. Access incentives expanded, carrying treatments to rich and developing nations equitably, easing care burden and restoring the workforce.
